Notification of new and changed content

There are two ways to know of changes to any of the content on this site. The differences are whether you wish to monitor a single item of content, learn of all additions of content (or changed content). The methods in detail:

  • Being subscribed to an item
  • Any item you post or reply can result in your being "subscribed" so that you will receive an email when something is posted. When you joined this page you should have opted to subscribe, but if you did not, then click here to edit your user page and click the "auto subscribe" choice on. This monitoring function is specific to each individual item of content. Click on my subscriptions in the user block to view a list of all items to which you are subscribed.

  • Another, more aggressive method, allows you to be notified of ALL content additions. The system sends out updates every so many hours -- currently set at 6 hour intervals. The extent of notification desired is configurable. Under your user block you'll a choice for my notify settings from which you can make choices for:
      • notify status: Turn the whole system on or off.
      • notify new content: Whether to include content of the new posting in your notification.
      • content: How much content to include: title only, title + 'teaser' portion, or the entire new content.
      • comments: Include new comments as content, or not.

    As you can see, this can be pretty aggressive if there is a lot of content being added. The following is an example of the type of email you will get:

    Greetings {your username},
    Recent content
    --------------

    published blog by {username of poster}: {title of the node will appear here}
    {followed by the 'teaser' part of the content {link to the item}
